michellegibson
I hope the picture shows up.....it's my first Bargello quilt. It will be a queen size bedspread in the end. Critique on my pallette choices would be appreciated. and also suggestions on best way to quilt it too....
Quilting Grammy
I have not been brave enough to do one of these and as for the quilting no clue I would more then likely do an overall with something differant in the borders.
michellegibson
It looks more complicated than it really is! Trust me....I have only made about 20 quilts in my lifetime and this is one of the easier ones so far.
witha'K'quilting
your colors/fabrics look nice. i can see this quilted with e2e flowers when you get finished.
whitepinesquilter
I can't wait to see this sewn together. For the quilting design, how about flowing lines that follow the contour of the bargello rows with two to three feather rows interspersed (I see them in the areas where there are floral fabrics and that pink camo fabric made me think of it). You would probably drop the needle down and move your quilt forward to continue on with the rows, since they are at the diagonal either way you load it? Are you adding a border? If so, how about a wide border in the neutral tonal range of your top and piano key it?
Primitive1
Wow, I've never made one of these. Looking forward to seeing how you quilt it!
Neher-in-law5
I have seen bargellos quilted with lines following the curves of the design, but the one that struck me the most was one that had feathers flowing with the design. You could feather one section and an alternate design in the next and back to feathers.
Anne from Guam
On your color palettes,I like the way the pinks move from one print to the next and the blue with pink flowers fabric moves into the blue tones nicely. Its going to be pretty!
michellegibson
I love the idea of the feathers and found a swooping feather with a swirling line that I really like. I think I will run it on the diagonal just like the colors are running to accentuate the flowing lines. What do you think? http://pinterest.com/pin/494833077777373934/
whitepinesquilter
Sure! The lines/veins within the feather would continue to accentuate the flowing direction of your stitching, and if you also added the curlies I feel it would accentuate the florals in this bargello. Love that you are checking pinterest for quilting ideas, I'm amazed at what I've been able to find there.
Bekah
What a lovely group of fabrics you chose. I like the feather design you found too. Can hardly wait to see it finished.
michellegibson
Marci, I often draw inspiration from Pinterest. Unfortunately, I get hung up in there and waste precious quilting time. lol. The first section is done! Now back to sewing strips. uggggh.

michellegibson
I think I may be suffering from Bargello madness! They take along time to fabricate, so I whipped out a lap quilt to break up the boredom but here's where I am at now!

michellegibson
I just finished piecing and adding the border. whew - that was a lot of sewing! 13 bobbins worth! http://tinypic.com/r/6hkbw5/6 for some reason though, I am scared to quilt this one! I really want the feather design I chose earlier, but I don't think I can do it on my little machine and do it well. Can anyone give me a quote to quilt it? 8' x 9' are the dimensions. michellegibson
I had to build up some confidence before I could begin quilting this quilt. Nervous!!!! First feather is in! Still scared that I will mess up all my hard work but I am going to plow ahead and keep rolling. The blue is of course the chalk I used to lay out the feather on the front. Critique from all of you pros out there is more than welcome! see post below for pictures

WW Quilter
Wow, Michelle, that is looking great. I am impressed that you are able to do this on your DSM. I was never brave enough to try a large quilt on mine. It is going to be beautiful!
michellegibson
Thank you WW. I got a few quotes to do it from APQS owners but they are out of my budget. I am saving my money to buy my own long arm so.....
HeidiP
You are doing an amazing job! Smart to finishing your quilts now so you can enjoy them now. And all the quilting skills you will have when you get your longarm. I have saved too many quilts for when I get a longarm 'someday'. It's pretty bad when grandkids grow out of the quilts before they are quilted. Finally got the longarm and hoping for time to quilt. Congratulations! whitepinesquilter
wow, you are even doing dense fill along with the feathers - on your dsm. You are one brave woman! Very nice, indeed!!!
michellegibson
Well ladies....I JUST finished my bargello quilt! Wow what a job! I started it on my brother machine by free motion then in the middle I was a able to purchase a mid arm quilting machine and rack which made the job much easier! Someday I will own an APQS machine! I had a few wrinkles in the backer but nothing ridiculous. I did a few projects in between including getting my hand stitched grandmother's flower quilt ready for hand quilting. I had to break up the feather boredom on this one....
