Sheagatzi
When I go to order a large batch of thread, am I best to order the 5000m cones or the 1000m cones? How do you figure it out, on average? Is there a formula?
whitepinesquilter
I agree that Superior has good info on types and use. Better than my guess and by golly!
srichardson
Here is a chart that is on the Superior Thread website that gives you a rough idea of how much thread you will need. http://www.superiorthreads.com/education/thread-education/how-much-thread-does-it-take-estimate-how-much-thread-you-will-need
witha'K'quilting
I buy the 5000m cones. Or superiors 3280 yd cones. I find the larger cone is the better value and can last through several quilts.
carolinequilts
I buy the large cones too.
GrandmaLKB
I usually buy the larger cones unless it is a color I am not likely to use a lot.
Quilting Heidi
I normally buy the large cones unless it is a color that I'm not sure I'll use a lot of.

zeke
Yes, cones of 3000 yds or more is the better value. They will normally last many quilts. Regards, zeke...........
pumpkinpatchquilter
Same here as everyone else, I usually buy the larger 5000m cones if I can get them...or 2000-3000 from places like Superior. I know some have suggested buying smaller cones of less used colors...but I'm always afraid of running out. Depending on the amount of quilting I'm doing I use different amounts of thread for each project.
