chickenscratch
Okay, so I am putting the little 1/4" lines between the feathers to tamp down the background. It is working okay, but taking forever. My question is what to do at the corners. Should I work out at angles from the inner corner to the outer corner until I get back to being able to do straight lines, or should I do the lines out to the edge of the longer border, then work perpendicularly on the bottom and top borders. Sorry to be such a pain, but you all are a better resource than any book or DVD available.
Busy Quilting
Chalk a 45 degree line (mitred corner line) on the corner and go to the line in one direction and head out in the other.

fineseams
I really like that look! The tight straight lines make the feather literally pop, and the contrast between the lovely curves and the geometric lines emphasizes the feathers even more!
