Janetsmith
Another question. What books, rulers, marking pens, pantos can you not live without?
Mercedes
My favorite ruler is the ITTY BITTY from Off the edge quilting. I love this little ruler for SID. I've found that the larger rulers are too cumbersome and this one fits nicely in my hand and is so easy to work with.
GMALKB
I also use the Castle by Deloa Jones a lot. Her boomerang rulers are great too.
Primitive1
I agree, I use the Itty Bitty, and Deloa's castle ruler as it has notches so I can always keep my ruler to the left or front of my hopping foot where I am more comfortable quilting. I also use Deloa's appliguide too as I outline lots of appliqué. Take some classes on Craftsy - Kim Brunner has some very good ones that will show you how easy it is to use some rulers - you tube also is a great resource. I personally like the Marvy Markers air erasable pens, but they disappear within a few hours so you can't mark a whole quilt ahead of time. Look for pantos that are not too complicated and easy and quick to follow...
chickenscratch
Any straight line ruler, a purple marking pen, and my apple core which works for CC, convex curves, arcs, etc. I just got a new one called the Bird from Quilter's rule. I can't wait to use it.
dancingraisin
Thanks for the Craftsy tip, Vicki. I need to start using rulers but seem to have forgotten everything I learned in class with DeLoa.
Bonnie H
For cross hatching, I really like the rulers Linda Rech's husband makes! My new favorite straight ruler is the one from Plank Industries -- the one that The Green Fairy uses and sells.
Beachside Quilter
My new favorite straight ruler is the one from Plank Industries -- the one that The Green Fairy uses and sells. Is it the A-1 ruler with handle, Bonnie? That's the only one I see on her website.
Quilting Heidi
My favorite rules are Deloa's Little one (use this on almost every quilt), boomerangs sizes 8, 10 & 12". Figure out what kind of quilting you do most and go from there.
Bonnie H
Vickie, yes, that's the one! Jamie Wallen also has one similar but I haven't seen his in person. I think his is also the A-1 Plank Industries but in a different color. I love The Green Fairy ruler for all its markings, too!
Pepsi Girl
I hope this is not a hijack. But Vickie ( or whoever), how does the appliguide help you? I've try a couple different ones and I just don't get it. I've watched a couple YouTube's, but when I use them it doesn't seem to help me. And I need some help! Can you explain it? Dreamer
I lost my apple corer ruler which I used a lot. Does anyone know where I can get another one? I used it and the dainty ditch ruler the most!
pumpkinpatchquilter
I use my ditch ruler (Quilter's Rule) for just about every quilt in some manner...and well - I'd be a fool to say I cannot live without MY panto designs! A nice feathery panto is a good general one to have on hand. Urban Elementz has a great selection... Generally I like to mark with white school chalk or purple disappearing ink...for intense custom quilts I use water soluble markers but they can be a pain to remove.
