tsurich Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Well it wasn't done by the original deadline but the fabric company didn't get back to me until yesterday afternoon. I was uncomfortable with SIDitch when the seams were wonky (I learned that word on this forum). I need to say it wasn't the stitcher's fault. She was given cuts of silk to make the top and if the pattern needed 16" she only got 18"-20" and the cuts were not on grain. When the fabric looked straight and as on grain as possible then a 2" strip cut from it, once the strip was moved away it became this limp off grain noodle. Anyway here is a photo of what I ended up doing. No close ups on this one and if you see it at market please be kind. Thank you for listening to my worries about this quilt, it helped!
quiltmonkey Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Wow! It's beautiful and bright. Great job!
FowlManorQuilting Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 You did exactly what it needed. With geometrics so dominant, to me it called for opposite geometry and that is exactly what you did, anything else would have been a distraction. Great job! I bet it feels glorious! Love to jump on it and take a nap! Gloria
kennan100 Posted April 6, 2007 Report Posted April 6, 2007 Sue you are soooooooo brave! I've been swallowing the lump in my throat since I first saw your original post on this! I could tell it was going to b rough, but you've really come through with flying colors, I hope they appreciate the effort!
CucumberQuilting Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Wow, great job! And how the heck did you do it with that kind of turn-a-round? amazing.
Mary Beth Posted April 7, 2007 Report Posted April 7, 2007 Beautiful...I was worried about it when you posted it un-quilted...but you did a perfect job.
Patch Posted April 8, 2007 Report Posted April 8, 2007 Wow, Sue, you made that thing gorgeous! The credit is all with you for this one, as I didn't think it looked like much of anything at all before, but now it's simply wonderfull. Give yourself a much-deserved pat on the back, and go do something FUN! Happy Easter!
annlittle1 Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Its beautiful. The design is perfect for the quilt. Did you have to do any frogging (removing stitches) on it? That is my concern with quilting on silk. Phyllis
tsurich Posted April 9, 2007 Author Report Posted April 9, 2007 Thanks All, Just being able to "talk" to someone who knows what it involved makes it easier to start into something like this. Luckily didn't have to rip but did run out of bobbin and kept stitching for a couple inches. I was able to sew right over the same line with thread. Where I had to baste to keep things inline did leave some tiny holes that I pray will relax by the time the company gets a look at it today. We shall see what they think. Thanks again for "listening",
sewingupastorm Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Sue I think it looks great. I have a silk quilt project right now. I am also going to do the piecing for the customer as well. Can you give me any tips on what kind of thread and which needle you used. Thanks in advance, Ami
Judi Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Sue that is just beautiful! Great job on such a difficult quilt - I love what you did and I really like the colors too! What kind of thread did you end up using?... was it silk also? If so brand? or your source please....? Cone or spool?
yvonnerenae Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Patch hit it right on the head, it wasn't much to look at until you got hold of it. All that ruler work, my goodness! You are ONE BRAVE SOUL to take on that project. It's stunning.
sewlooney Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Sue-What a beautiful quilt! It turned out so fabulous-you did such a wonderful job quilting! Cherri
