quiltlover03
I have been afraid of using a 3.5 needle. Heard stories of shredding thread, snapping thread, terrible needleflex, etc. I recently quilted a Quilt with a 4.0 needle, Maxilock Swirls on top, polyester on the bottom and Bamboo batting. Oh my, it was terrible. I had to wash the Quilt (for my online store) first and most pokies disappeared. Thursday I spend the day with my friend Cher who lurks here sometimes Hello Cher (waves and smiles) and she was telling me she uses 3.5 on her Millie all the time. So this morning I took my heart in my hand, inserted a 3.5 needle, used the same thread combo, backing and batting and quilted another Quilt for my store. Not a pokie in sight! No thread breaking, snapping, shredding, and I still quilted like a speedy gonales after the inital first row. Lesson learned. I am getting smarter. mswings
Good to know Monika. I bought a package of 3.5 needles at MQS but have not tried them yet for the very reasons you mentioned. I guess I need to take a leap of faith! Thanks
lindasewsit
Hi Monika!! I have always ued a 3.5 needle! I think I changed the 4 that was in there after something Myrna had said on her beginner's video. I think......I just remember somewhere either talking to her or the video. But , reguardless, I have always used the 3.5 and not had any troubles at all with the needle. I think you'll like it! linda
quiltlover03
Oh yes, Linda, I really like it and I never adjusted the top or bottom tension. My previous FREEDOM didn't like a 3.5, but my new baby is very comfortable with it, I am looking forward to my next Batik without the big holes. doodlebug
i use 3.5 all the time for batiks. i've never had issues with it. i'm glad to see so many posts where people are getting 'brave' and trying new things! keep it up!
TracyeQ
I pretty much use only 3.5 needles. I use the Groz Beckert (the ones Dawn said were good for our machines) and don't even have to change for thick applique or batik.
quiltlover03
I am looking forward to those. I use Titanium needles in my embroidery machine all the time and love them. Nice to know that the 3.5 goes thru thick batting too. Thanks
JustSewSimple
I only use 3.5 I think that is what came with my machine. I'm sure it is. Stitching is pretty. I haven't used King Tut thread with them tho.
Quilting Heidi
I use 3.5 almost exclusively. I've never had a problem.
Tamarack
Good to know! I have never tried 3.5 needles and quilt a lot of batiks. I'll be adding that onto my next supply order. Thanks for sharing:)
Sandra Darlington
I also have several packs of 3.5 needles, but have not been brave enough to try them, either. I have only used 4.0s. Perhaps I need to try them, too.
Hollyrw
I just put my last 3.5 in the machine this morning so I guess I must have used them at some point. I remember changing to the 4.0's to run the heavier thread. Most of the time I use Bottom Line or Sew Fine so the smaller needle is probably just fine for me.
