Quilting Heidi
How would you guys quilt this block. I'm working on a sampler quilt and its killing me! Many of the blocks just aren't talking to me...how dare they :mad::mad:. This is one of them. I just can't decide what to do on it to perk it up. It is a giant block, I think like 15 x 15. The piecer likes geometric kind of designs. I have tried lots of different things on this one but nothing is saying, yes do that!
Primitive1
Heidi, I think I would just do the ribbon candy thing in the trees and just a filler like stippling or something in the off white areas...
witha'K'quilting
how about something like this? I was thinking either line dancing or an oakleaf looking design in the tree. That is what I tried to draw!
kennan100
Look at that website for 365 days of fillers that was posted here recently. Sh has some that are very angular and geometric.
njquiltergirl
Hi Heidi. They remind me of trees....how about a leafy meander in the green/red triangle, or a checkerboard look up there, then swirlies (like the fabric) in the beige areas and bark texture or long straight lines? Hope it helps! Lisa APQS Liberty NJ
Quilting Heidi
Lisa the frabric in my drawing is from EQ so not the fabric used in the block at all, although there are 3 greens, two dark one light and then the pinkish paisly. I had planned on the stippling in the background but those trees are driving me crazy. Nothing I draw on them seems to look good. I'm SIDing all of the blocks. It just looks so much better than just line dancing. So far I have 6 blocks done and I liked the way they all came out but this one is making me a bit crazy. Maybe I'll just do line work on it and call it a day! What do you think? I think this will meet her need for geometric and not hurt my brain any further :P:P:P
quiltmonkey
How about zig zaggy things like this? Or little tiny curly swirlies? Baby leafy things? Ferny frondy things?
Quilting Heidi
Shana, I tried bigger zigzags with more space inbetween but not that . That might work.
witha'K'quilting
Heidi..either your idea or Shana's will probably look great. Shana's doesn't require a ruler! I like that!!
quiltmonkey
I am such a doodlebug! What about this?
Quilting Heidi
Keep doodling! I tried that one and it did nothing for the quilt.
quiltmonkey
How about quilting a big giant apple in one, a pear in the other? A banana in the other one...
quiltmonkey
OK maybe the banana isn't such a great idea...
quiltmonkey
Maybe a birdie in the tree. Make it a little blue bird in a nest. Cute!

Tracey
I like Shana's idea. They look like little umbrellas to me. You know the kind you get when wearing a grass skirt?? LOL (Ihave never worn a grass skirt but you know what I mean;))
quiltmonkey
Tracey, if you ever decide to wear a grass skirt, make sure your undies match. I'm just sayin....

Quilting Heidi
Shana & Tracey - I'm never going to look at grass skirts and banana's the same way again...I can't get the picture out of my head! LOL Marie I did that too but I think it goes away too much from the look of the quilt. The quilt has a mixture of blocks in it but the fabric is a woodsie kind of Adirondack look. I think the straight lines actually look the best so far with everthing else. Keep coming up with ideas though. My cleaning still ain't done! Quilting Heidi
Joann, Yes that is exactly what I'm going to do. Thanks for the visual. I think it suites the quilt just fine!
CindyT
I was going to suggest nested triangles in the trees, you know the continuous nested triangles (since I don't have a way to draw pictures like you gals do).
