blbliss
Has anyone quilted a quilt made with silk material? If so what size needle and thread did you use? Did you have any specific problems? I have material to practice on and need to get started on this project soon. Thanks for any help you may have. ffq-lar
I recently quilted two silk pieces. I used Monolon and BottomLine as the top thread on one and only monolon on the other. I used a new titanium needle and had zero problems with snagging and the holes left by the needle weren't overly large.
LadyLake
I quilted an all-silk quilt a couple of weeks ago. I used Bottom Line in the top and bobbin; and Superior Threads metallics in the top with Bottom Line in the bobbin. The batt was Quilters Dream poly select loft and the backing was a high thread count muslin. I had no problems and actually think silk fabric quilts up easier than regular fabric. I use a slightly damp cotton cloth to brush holes closed.
blbliss
Thanks ladies, You were a big help. I had looked at Superior THreads but it does not hurt to look again. I am starting this quilt later this week. Just needed some encouragement. By the way Joan, I am originally from Blue Earth, MN. I still have many relatives there and around Minneapolis. PattyJo
Joan - what a good tip about the damp cloth to brush the holes closed. Thanks. I'll be putting this one in my tips folder.

blbliss
Well I got the Silk quilt all done. It looks pretty good too. My biggest problem was that she asked for straight lines. I mastered that. Learned a lot and had a good time doing it. THanks for you help and encouragement.

Mary Beth
You know, a lot of the show quilts are made with silk. Like most of the quilts Claudia does in the theme catagory for MQWS.
