JustSewSimple
There is a whole lot of white in this top. What should I do there? She wants white thread.
LibbyG
Of course I like feathers. Since I have the quiltazoid I could use a spirograph. So anything like that.
JustSewSimple
Hmmmmmmm! I do have Circle Lord and I have the feather template. I wonder if I can get it small enough. I had not thought about that! Thanks girl!
delld
How about molar feathers with a small spiral in the center and cc or terry twist in the color fabrics squares!!! BTW Linda Rech helped me with this design!!! Check this one out and used the arrows to the left to see more pictures!!! Click on the picture and it will go to flickr. 002 by delld1964, on Flickr
Primitive1
I like the feather idea too! It would give it great texture!
yankiequilter
Feathers is the first thing that I thought of for the white area and then TT in the colored squares. Dell, love the molar feathers in your quilt, that is a good one for Sylvia's quilt, also!
LisaC
Have you checked out Judi Madsen's new book Quilting Wide Open Spaces? She has a lot of designs for 9 patches; they are fabulous but would be custom quilting. They fill the entire white space including in the 9 patch portion. Very beautiful. ffq-lar
Here's a design on an Irish chain. It requires some marking but fits well. The top you picture would be gorgeous with some of the trendy modern straight-line designs, though. Great quilt and I know you'll make it gorgeous! http://www.flickr.com/photos/larech/9729412714/
dlnewell
Here's a design I did in a quilt just like that, with cc's in the nine patch blocks. I couldn't find any photos of it on my computer though. There was also one quilted in the Keepsake quilting catalog that had a sun motif in each of the plain squares. Peggy (SewAsylum)
Molar feathers? I love them! They kind of look like the teeth we drew in college when I thought I wanted to be a dental hygienist! I would much rather sew them then clean them! They do look lovely and would be a good choice. I learn something new here every single day!
JustSewSimple
Dell, what is that canoe you have there and where did you get it. Is that one of the nesting ovals? You guys are too good. Thanks for all your help!
Quilting Heidi
How about small tt's in the small squares, larger ones in the big white area and then fill in that area with feathers, yummy.
delld
Dell, what is that canoe you have there and where did you get it. Is that one of the nesting ovals? You guys are too good. Thanks for all your help! That little melon (canoe) is from Kimmyquilt.com. They are called Melon Template set. I used it because it was handy and just right but you could use any curve shape you have or circle shape to mark the line so you can have them all looking almost alike and even! Good luck! https://kimmyquilt.danemcoweb.com/shop/product/melon-template-set/
chickenscratch
I would do straight lines through the squares(diamonds) then do feathered wreaths or cross hatching in the white squares. Sometimes simpler is better.
RitaR
This is much like the Quilt of Valor I received yesterday. She just used 9 patches alternating with white.. Feathers is on my mind for all the white, not sure yet, what will be done in the 9 patch blocks.. maybe something roundish.. not straight lines though. Eagerly waiting to see what you do.. Gamache
Don't sell yourself short. Leaves and swirls are very forgiving, so Linda's design is very doable. I like all of the suggestions. Can't wait to see what you do. Chris
