michelleslongarm
I have a customer that wants a light weight batting on a king size quilt. She even mentioned using fleece. Do you have a suggestion for batting? Have you ever used fleece as batting? Thanks Michelle
Quilting Heidi
I have quilted on fleece and it works well. Just be sure you load it with the stretch going edge to edge and the salvages on the bars. Don't load it too tight either. My favorite light weight poly is Quilters Dream Puff. Very light and drappy but warm too. It really lets the quilting shine. Another great option would be wool.
sspingler
I use Soft n Brite by the Warm Company. It has very little shrink and no stretch when on the machine. Has a nice drape and is warm but still thin.
Corey
I like to use Hobbs 80/20, its lightweight and behaves like poly even though 80 is cotton. It quilts like butter, drapes good, thin, yet warm enough. Corey
Stagecl
Dreampoly is nice (I have used it for customers)...but I am not a fan of poly batts, just because I like more natural fibers.
meg_marsh
I am a Dream Puff fan - I do think it is best when not densely quilted - use Dream Poly when I am quilting a more dense pattern. Just my thoughts - love wool the best!
sewlinzi
Hobbs Polydown is great. Quite drapey, very light and pouffy. Of course, I like to quilt some of it to the death and that works well too! LINZI x
quiltnutt
I love Quilters Dream Poly. It drapes so nice and quilts like butter.
Neher-in-law5
I don't have a long arm with frame, but use 3M Thinsulate exclusively. It is soft, lightweight, and snuggly warm. I wanted a warm/lightweight quilt for my daughter's college dorm and the shop lady talked about how cotton breathed. So I tried one, quilter's dream or something like that. It is much heavier and stiffer than any of my thinsulate quilts. We both wished I would have used the Thinsulate. It comes in 60 inch rolls with 30 yards on it. I can order 3 rolls at a time, minimum.
SandraG
I only use Quilter's Dream battings. My favorite is wool. I also like all of the rest. Lately, on large quilts if my customer prefers a cotton batt I have been using Dream Angel instead of Dream Cotton. It is lighter and does quilt beautifully. bonbon
Soft and Bright by the Warm Co. is great. Not super puffy and not that expensive. Super light weight is wool batting. I've used white flannel in baby quilts as batting. Adds and extra layer of warmth and thin enough to wrap and snug around baby. Fleece would work but adds extra weight. Just depends on what the customer is looking for.
Sandra Darlington
I love Quilter's Dream battings, too. But...I like the idea of using flannel as the "batting" in a baby quilt that will be wrapped around the baby. I'll have to give that one a try. Gator
I use fleece a lot for backings but never used it for the actual batting? I use Quilter's Dream for all my quilts.
