lizziesgirl
Sorry that I didn't get to these until today. Murphy's law and graduation played a huge factor. Anyway here it is and Ferret if its different than yours please put your input also. Step 1: Prepare binding as usual. I don't fold mine and iron, I just fold as I put it onto the quilt. Step 2: Leave a 1 1/2" tail and start sewing about 1/4" from the end of the quilt. Back tack. Sew to about 1/4" from the other end of the quilt. Back tack and leave a 1 1/2" tail. [/img] Step 4: Fold quilt at corner right sides together and align the binding to be even across the top. Pin to secure. [/img] Step 6: Sew on the line drawn. Be sure to back tack at the beginning and end and have your stitch length to 2.0. Only sew to the stitching. [/img] [/img] Now lets see if I can get the pictures to appear. shorequilt
Excellent instructions and the pictures really make everything clear. I had purchased one of Ricky Tims DVDs and he uses a similiar technique. Although it was a video I found it hard to actually see and understand what he was doing. Adding your instructions to my favorites! Thanks, Deb

zeke
Hi Sheryl, My wife does it the same way that you do it. She uses a special ruler the make the mitered corners. Not the one from the quilt shops, but one that I've had to order. I buy them buy the 30 or 40 each time. She teaches a class on doing mitered binding. zeke.................. lizziesgirl
Zeke, I have a ruler by Anima's that is for this type of corners but I like using my little 2 1/2" sq ruler better and it does the same thing. What type of ruler do you get?

What type of ruler do you get? Sheryl I've not tried doing bindings this way but I like the way it looks! How do you ensure getting it so that it turns at the exact mid point? Zeke I'd be interested to know more about the ruler your wife uses too.
lizziesgirl
Heidi, It just does it. When you align the ruler between the edge of the binding and the sewing line and mark it, then sew it, it works. I've yet to have one not and I have done them this way for 12 years. PamelaA
The Creative Grids people have a miter edge tool for finishing off binding. It also works for angles other than 90 degree ones. I got mine at Creations Sew Clever in Chillicothe, Ohio. If you google them you will find their web site. Pamela
PattyJo
I've also saved this post to favorites. I've been doing the flip, flop thing with the binding that is suppose to get you a mitered corner and I'm not always please with how it turns out. thanks for posting such good pics. lizziesgirl
Bringing this to the top so Ferret can find it. Really curious to see if it's the same as her way.
Ferret
Yup, that's how I do it. I do have the Animas binding tool for marking the stitch line. It's got angles for different corners and a very pointly bit for 60 degree corners which is great for helping turn the point. Ferret
