WandaGeneQuilts
Hi Everybody-- I have been using the single stitch up/down to make a large zig-zag basting stitch along the edges of the quilt. I do one stitch just outside the edge, move 1/2 or so forward, and then one stitch within the seam allowance to be covered by binding. With a little practice, I've noticed that I' getting pretty fast at this! This type of basting completely eliminates "fold-back" when your machine goes off the edge and then back on again. I wanted to share this with everybody and ask if anyone else has been using this technique with their pantos. JoAnnHoffman
I use a straight line of stitching, stitch regulated to baste. No foldovers when using the CompuQuilter.
jmcclannan
I don't use a zig-zag but I always baste the sides right along the edge even when I am not using a panto.
anniemueller
I've been doing the same wide zig zag with needle up/down for pantos. Works great.

witha'K'quilting
I too use SR mode and straight stitching and I baste both sides of the quilt as I go.
sewingjunky
Ok I will admit, I use my fingers and don't baste. When I end up in the emergency room I bet I change my plan! I think I will start now, I just hate unhooking the machine, pathetic I know!
JustSewSimple
I use the SR mode and baste the side I start on. I zig zag on and off the fabric within the "binding" area so it doesn't have to come out later and doesn't show.
sspingler
I baste but with a very small zig-zag.

Gator
I use my channel lock to get a straight basting stitch across the top and bast the sides as I go (if the quilt is really straight I use my channel lock again. I use the basting stitch on my IQ or "gator's" SR.
Quilting Heidi
I too use my SR and zig zag over the edge. I also use my channel locks to run a straight line to load the quilt. If I'm not going to do a lot of quilting in the borders, meaning all the way on and off the edge then I use the needle up/down. That way I can easily unstitch it when I'm doing the binding. If you don't you could end up with a very wavy binding.
