lorihufford
Traveling down Route 77 through Kentucky numerous times in the lst few years, I have always admired this quilt square on a barn right before Berea, Kentucky. According to the Quilt trails website, the name is Kentucky Red Bird. I cannot find it in any block library, does it have another name? I would love to find the pattern for it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Lori
cblevins
http://ces3.ca.uky.edu/madisonquilttrail/patterns.html Try this link. I have had the pleasure of seeing many of these and they are beautiful. Some of the designs are by the barn owners though so you may not be able to find a pattern. Do you have EQ? LeeAnn
I took a class from Barb Gorges, from Wyoming last summer and we did this pattern in class. Here is her website: http://www.gorgesquiltlabels.com/buy.asp But I don't see any patterns there. You maybe could contact her for the pattern. IQ'd
I tried to do this in EQ and here is the result.... I sure don't know how you would piece it though....

SandraG
Julia, If you send me that file I can work on the piecing. I am thinking it would be easy to paperpiece in sections then put them together. Sandra sandra@quiltcorneronline.com
newellyn
It is variation of a LeMoyne Star or Eight Pointed star. I am out of time tonight but can try to find it tomorrow or will draw it out if someone else hasn't come up with it.
Calicoquilter
I thought it was called "Circling Swallows"
Calicoquilter
I just did an Internet search and I found that it is called "Circling Swallows", "Flying Swallows", "Circle of Swallows" and "Birds in Flight" among other things.
sewlinzi
I betyou could figureaway of doing that with half sq triangles...
sspingler
It's also called Dove in the Window.
Guest Linda S
That's not a dove in the window -- I've quilted one of those and it has actual birds in it. You can see the piecing (at least I can) in that first picture. I think Linzi is right -- looks like it's composed of mostly HSTs Linda
LeeAnn
When we did this block is Barb Gorges' class we did all diamonds and y-seamed them all. I'm pretty sure she has the pattern, just not on her website.
lorihufford
I knew this resource would be able to help me! It would be ideal if it were triangles and squares, because I am terrible at set in points! I will keep watching this to see if anyone can come up with a grid or pattern. Thank you so much! Lori P.S. tried Magna glide bobbins last week, I think I am in love!

marycontrary
Wow, you girls are good! Also found it in Jenny Beyer's book The Quilters Album of Blocks and Borders (copyright 1986). Called "Flying Swallows" from the Ladies' Art Company, 1898. Also called Circling Swallow, Falling Star, Flying Swallow, Whirling Star and Wreath. Guess it's been around quite a while!
