Kueser
I'm a little frustrated right now with my extended base. It catches on the quilt when I'm right in the middle of an arch. Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding how to keep this thing from shifting. One method would be to get the fixed extended base. I'd like to hear the pros and cons regarding the fixed base. Myrna Ficken
What kind of base expander do you have?

witha'K'quilting
I too have the ruler mate by donita reeves. I leave it on all the time except for thorough cleanings..and love it.
nanbrug
I purchased the Harltey and had the same problem with it sliding around and so I bought a permanent one and with this one you don't have to worry about it tipping and there's no need to take it off all the time. Just my opinion.
Kueser
I think it's a Hartley. I bought it second-hand so it might be a knock off.
myquilts
I have both the Hartley base extender and the Ruler Mate. i use the hartley because I was getting constant thread breakage with the ruler mate. My Hartley base fits tight and I don't mind putting it on and off as needed.
Myrna Ficken
Under each thread cutter screw are two washers, a thinner one and a bit thicker one. I always suggest adding another thin one under each screw. The Hartley base sits just a bit higher than the thread cutter cover. In my experience that cases my ruler to catch if you will and stops movement. Adding the extra washer takes care of that. I wouldn't part with my Hartley base, easy on easy off and fits tight. Just my thoughts, hope it helps.
Kueser
Need to go to town to buy the washers. Looked in my stash and none are the thin ones. Tried to put some plastic bumpers on the sides of the base to make it tighter. Had some success but I think I don't know my own strength some times as I push down on the ruler
SandraG
I put a little piece of batting to "tighten" mine up a little.
quiltlover03
I have both, the Hartley Expander and the Ruler Mate and let me tell you, the Hartley is collecting dust. The Ruler Mate wins hands down and the only time I remove it is to do a thorough cleaning, usually every Saturday.
mswings
I have the RulerMate and I leave it on all the time. I only take it off when cleaning. Kueser are you a member of MOKAN? There meeting is today. I'm about to head out to Olathe for it. Hope you can make it.
Quilting Heidi
I too have both and I have kept on the rulermate since I got it. The only reason I haven't sold the hartly is because the hartly is wider than the ruler mate and it is easier to use the microdrive handles with it. I like the rulermate better with rulers but it may just be the washer problem. Looks like I may give that a try.
Kueser
no, not member of MOKAN as I have other duties during their meeting time. Several of the girls in the local guild attend and they invite me to go but can't. At least until he gets in pre-school.
