aktbone
Has anyone tried to use polar fleece for batting? I have tons and would like to use it up for batting. Pros/Cons Why/Why not? thanks
delld
Haven't used it as a batting but have as a backing with 80/20 as batting. It was a little heavy but very warm! LOL
Sandra Darlington
I use it as backing frequently, but never as the batting.
ffq-lar
Give it a try and report back, please. It sounds like a great idea. Careful though that the fleece isn't so bright that it shadows through the fabric. Or use it as a layer to do shadow trapunto! That's usually done with brightly dyed batting or bright felt and an open-weave white top. Look for a recent post on shadow trapunto to see a beautiful example. Linda Taylor does a technique where she layers fabric, quilts it, and then cuts through one or more fabrics to expose brighter fabric underneath. OMG--I need to get some tie-die type fleece and give that a try!
witha'K'quilting
Linda..you crack me up! Can't wait to see what you come up with. It will be spectacular I am sure.
Quilting Heidi
I haven't tried it as a batting but I did try it for trapunto. I didn't like the results of the trapunto. It was very hard to trim and it didn't trim close to the stitching easily so there was lots of shadowing that shouldn't have been there.
mrmquilt
I've used it as batting and it worked just fine. I used just the width of the fleece, didn't try sewing it together to make it bigger. Michele
GrandmaLKB
Haven't used it as a batting, but have used it on backs lots of times. I use a very thin batt with it just to give a little more body. I don't know why it wouldn't work for batting though !
Linda G. Craig
I've used it both ways. Works great! Is limited though to the width of the fleece. Good luck, enjoy!
o2b Quilting
local 4-H kids made baby blankets here and used the fleece as batting. Worked great! Flannel backing was used on most of them but some had cotton fabric as backing. They tied some of them and used the longarm on several also. The fleece worked well for both ways. Butterfly
I have never used it as a batting, only a backing. If you use it as a backing then batting would not be necessary. I liked it...just a bit more linty than usual. Jess
elkayr
might try it without anything for batting...just top and fleece for the back...
meg_marsh
I did a quilt with just the top and fleece for the backing - no batting. I really wasn't pleased. It was kind of flimsy. When I use fleece, I normally just do the 2 layers of fleece or when using fleece just for the backing, add a light weight batting. This is my personal opinion and you might light just the top and fleece/no batting.
