witha'K'quilting
Here is another one. The little pieced border is 1.5" wide. The sashing is 3" wide and the pieced block is 9" square. Any suggestions?
Boni
I recognize that block! It's a Rolling Stone. I was considering a feathered wreath in the center of each block and a cable in the sashing. Maybe a little pointy star flower in the cornerstones. Most of the 30's quilts I see in the books I have are very simply done with crosshatching, simple feathered wreath, cable, pointy star/flower, etc. That's a must see when you're done! witha'K'quilting
Thanks Bonnie for the name of this block. I told you I drew a blank when I saw these tops. I am not too worried about traditional 30's quilting on this one. Her muslin isn't muslin at all...it is white tone on beige teddy bears. How is that for messing up a reproduction 1930's quilt?? Boni
If she wants a more contemporary look, how about some Terry Twist in the SNS, and funky feathers in the sashing?
Boni
I tried to scribble a little. I tried to experiment and just give you food for thought. I think it's getting late--my hand is tired. But it's fun. Good luck!
Sandra Darlington
CL Baptist Fans?
shadows4
My goodness Bonnie! You are good at the paint program! When I try it, it looks like a two year old just picking up a crayon for the first time. I don't have any ideas for this, I was just liking Bonnie's drawings. Quilting Heidi
I vote for Bonnie's first drawing!
yeoldeforest
Sandra - I was thinking a baptist fan too. Always a great designs with the 1930s.
Bonnie
I too like the drawing that Bonnie R did, but my first reaction when I saw it was also a Baptist Fan....
quiltaholi_518
I vote for Baptist Fan! Super-duper easy!!!
Boni
If you're talking about easy, yeah, go for the BF. Those funky feathers could be challenging especially overlapping blocks. And the loopy loopy in the "stone" would have to be stretched quite a bit for that size block. If you're practicing, I'd gather my wits and do something custom instead of the E2E. Have fun! DoryJM
Hi Kristina...did you take a customer quilt?? Good for you!!!! I think Bonnie's first idea is really good too. I like the feathers around the outside and the twist, not sure about the loopies on the inner circle...maybe e's and l's instead?? You have to show this one when you're done! Sheri Butler
I'll 3rd or 4th the Baptist Fan!
jmyhogan
I expect it depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it and how much the customer wants to pay. I like Bonnie's first drawing. My very first choice for an easy do is CL Baptist Fan.
quiltjunkie
My very first thought was Baptist Fan also!
witha'K'quilting
This is not a customer quilt for pay. I am doing this as a freebie along with 2 others for practice for my friend. I may try the Baptist fan. If I do, I will have to use the Hartley Fence to do it. I better start watching Myrna's video! Thanks for all the help. DoryJM
These will be great practice and a nice stepping stone to paying quilts! Good for you!!
witha'K'quilting
I am working on this quilt right now. Lots of SID work. I decided against Baptist fans as this quilt is not square and has lots of puckers. It will have some feathering and cc's in the stones. I will post as soon as it is done. Going for a more contemporary flair. I am experiencing thread breakage though on top with Bottomline. Never had it break so much as now. Can it be the el'cheapo polyyester thick batting?!? Hope to post pics later tonight.
witha'K'quilting
Here is the finished quilt. Thanks for all the input everybody. What great ideas.
Boni
Oh my goodness look at you! You did the feathers! I'm tickled for you. Was that fun, or what? I like the way you dipped into the block with your feather. How did you like practicing all those CC's in the squares/rectangles? You are fast too. I've been working on a small-ish 44" square for three days. Just can't stand it for very long. I have to take a lot of breaks. Well, keep up the enthusiasm---it's contagious. And thanks for posting the pictures.
