MarieBrewer
Just finished a panto for a lady who brought it to me at 8:30am today. It's now 3:30 and I'm done. Got to love those big pantos. Anyway, it was a ba quilt and I got $193 for it. Taking time out for lunch and phone calls, I think I made $27 per hour. How often does that happen? Just took off a 3 day custom last night for $87. Yikes!! Was fun tho!!!
Judi
Isn't that interesting how that works - I have only done one panto in the last - I don't know how many years - I just don't like them! Love to do SID and custom work - anyday!!! Nice to have the faster ones to help make a bit of $$$ though.
witha'K'quilting
Just curious...what do you charge for a pantograph or allover board design? I have been asked a time or two and don't know. I like custom...but sometimes a panto is all that is necessary.

Quilting Heidi
I love custom but boy you sure don't make great money on it...at least I don't! I love to have panto's in between so that I can get my average up higher. Kristina I charge .0175 - .02 for panto's depending on the density. I have one or two that I'll charge only .015 but most people don't want those.
bobbi
I'm pretty much with Heidi. Any where from .015/per sq in, to .03+ depending on what they want... I think I made around a $1.50/hr for the last baby quilt I did... Is it LOVE? of the work? goodness!
matildanme
I prefer pantos, I kinda loose myself, let my mind wonder and sew along.... yep, I love 'em (that and I'm not fast enough doing custom lol) Whatever floats your boat! I seriously do admire folks that quilt real pretty, if I could I certainly would and more often
lindasewsit
Marie, I know that when I first started quilting, everyone said that pantos are the money makers!! I've only done 2 pantos for customers but boy, they were sure good $!
MarieBrewer
Kristina, I charge .15 per sq inch for any panto and that includes the batting of their choice. I keep about 5 different types on hand. Wool is not an option. Roxanne, I keep getting my emails back fm the msg. site. I don't know why. I have responded to all your msgs only to get then returned. Loved having you here. Would like to do it again some time. Didn't take pix-rarely do. Just too stinkin far behind. I do know where my camera is tho!!LOL

No wonder you are making the money. That rate is up there above heirloom quilting. WOW. Good for you. This quilt had to be only a little larger than 30x40, right? mrsbishwit
This is why I am a panto only business I also admire all of you who can do those gorgeous custom quilts, with the feathers and freehand designs. But unfortunately right now with my life the way it is (in the middle of raising my kids) there dosen't seem to be any $ left over to pay for classes and deffinately no time left in a day for practice, practice, practice. But once they are all grown I would really like to focus more in the custom area, probably not for my business but deffinately for my own quilts. lindasewsit
Marie, Do you mean 1 1/2 cents per square in? The way you wrote it says 15 cents!! Is that what you get? WHew! if so!! !! linda Just read it again.... I guess if you are including the batting, that' s not that bad.... I charge for batting... it is not included in my pricing. Makes sense now.. sorry! MarieBrewer
I wonder where my reply to Kristina went. I DO NOT get 15 cents per sq. inch. I get 1 and 1/2 cents per sq. inch. If I got 15 cents per sq. inch I may be retired at the end of the year instead of just being tired.
witha'K'quilting
You charge .015 psi and include batting? You need to charge more my dear.
Butterfly
I wish I had some pantos or all-overs to do. So far everyone wants custom. While I like to do them, the money is not so great. Jessica
lindasewsit
Yes, Marie, You NEED to charge for batting!! that can REALLY add up! Please reconsider for your sake! That's $ out of your pocket that SHOULD be coming out of their own!! It's their quilt..not a gift from you!!! think about it!
LinneaMarie
I charge .018 for an all over. Even the Circle Lord big templates. That's because I can't do a panto to save my soul, and I know the Devil is hot on my tail!!:P:P I have tried a few, but they always look so messy to me. I guess I just need more PPP!! :P
quiltlover03
Marie, how can you include batting in that rate? Do you get a super cheap deal? My pantos start at .015c/sq in all the way up to .02, custom, and that includes a small meander, starts at .02 and goes up from there. Just got a new panto from www.Quiltscomplete.com called "Fascination", loaded and quilted it on a 71" x 88" Quilt in less than 1.5 hour for $93.72, batting extra. Yep, would be nice to have 3 per day, 5 days a week!

I wouldn't be in business if I did that. The only thing that I do on a consistant bases is provide a guild 10% discount on the quilting portion only. No discount is applied to batting or thread (only charge for specialty threads).
witha'K'quilting
Heidi, Marie charges 1-1/2 (.015) cpsi. and includes batting, not 15 (.15) cpsi! That is what I thought when I read how she initially wrote it.
