Sylvia
What a neat picture! Are they sandhill cranes? We have the S.H. cranes that get into the grain fields here in Canada. Sylvia
meg
these are egrets? i have never seen grey egrets. east coast egrets are white. very cool! thanks for sharing. love your sign, too.
kusmaulk
Yes they are sandhill cranes. They wander around our neighborhood all the time. My husband calls them pterodactyls - they have a loud screeching sound! The sign is a big improvement over the one that I handpainted (in my avatar)
witha'K'quilting
I should have known..sandhill cranes. We had both sh cranes and egrets in South Texas...my bad.
kennan100
That is so cool! They just came right up to say hi. We have the white Egrets, too. Oh, and pink ones, too. I think the color has something to do with their diet, like Flamingo's.
Guest Linda S
How cool! We have lots of great blue herons down by the river, but they never come up to my yard. They do scare the begeebers out of me when I come around the corner on the river trails and see them standing there. They do kind of look like a mixture of bird and dinosaur! delld
I think the sandhill cranes are beautiful. I never see them here on the island but do up in the Okeefenokee swamp. We have lots of egrets that stop by, 2 couples of bluebirds and a redtail hawk that stays here too. Thanks for sharing the picture!!!! Made me smile! Linda G. Craig
What a cool picture and I love your sign! We get sandhill cranes here in Manitoba Canada too. We saw one here just the other day. They really get around, don't they. Thanks for sharing that photo.
Liam
What a neat picture! We get the sandhill cranes and deer walking through our back yard all the time and I live in a small town (correction village). We also have the mill pond across the street and it get pretty loud in the spring & fall with the canadian geese.

kennan100
Yep, pink! They look just like the white ones and they all hang out together, except some of them are pink! Ok, Google isn't helping me here. Nothing that looks like what we see around here is showing up. Must be dreaming!
MastiffMomQlt
Ha! They were looking for a LONG LEG quilter, not a Long ARM quilter....

quiltmonkey
Nice pic of the sign and sandhill cranes posing in front. I was driving to the grocery store today and I live across from a large open field. I spotted two sandhill cranes feeding in the grass. Flocks of them migrate here every summer. kusmaulk
Caren - Thanks for the laugh about looking for a long legged quilter!! I got a photo of one of them bending down on his knees to get a drink from a puddle in my driveway. Never saw this before.
Judi
AUGH!!! I think these critters would freak me out if I saw them coming around the corner!!! WoW! We had to deal with our normal critters here last weekend. A huge snapping turtle (15 or 20 lbs) was stuck in a basement window egress - and in the other corner was a poor little baby bunny just shaking in its fur..... saved them both. My husband was able to throw the snapper out with a pitchfork and caught the bunny with an apple picker. I should have snapped a photo of that before he did! What a pair they made.... wonder how long they were in there.....
quiltmonkey
There is a large open field here in downtown Fairbanks where flocks of the geese and cranes come to feed and nest. They come here every year. I took these photos yesterday with my iPhone so they aren't that great. It was 85 degrees outside!
quiltmonkey
It's hard to tell in the photo but the pond you see is is surrounded by birds and nests. Those little black dots around the outer edge of the water are all birds and their nests.
