Georgene
It was a privilege to have to opportunity to work with this antique fabric. I made the quilt for a lady in New York. I used the CL Zig Zag template for the crosshatched ourter border and the CL Cable template for the inner border. The corner stones are done with an R&S small squares template. The center of this quilt is very special, it was salvaged from a very old futon cover purchased in a Tokyo antique shop in 1982 for $200. The fabric, probably made during the first half of the twentieth century, is an example of a yarn dyed technique called Kurume Kasuri, developed by a 12-year-old-girl, Inoue Den, in 1788, when she tried to replicate the look of old cloth. The designs were woven by changing colors of yarn during the weaving process. The fabric is only 12 inches wide, made on small looms....for small places. Dar
WOW!! That is beautiful. It reminds me of the Yukata fabric from Japan. You do very nice work for your customers. Sure hope they appreciate you. Thanks for sharing and for the lesson in textiles.

Quilting Heidi
Nice job Georgene. Were you nervous to work on fabric that old and irreplacable?
Georgene
Heidi, yes, a bit nervous. But if you'll notice, I didn't do much quilting on the antique fabric...minimal to support the wool batting and not to detract from the designs in the fabric itself.
