lizziesgirl
Where can you find the telescoping stands that photographers use and we use to hang a quilt? Sewlinzi just had a picture of her quilt and it was on a stand that I am looking for. Also what do you call them? Thanks
bobbi
Try e-bay... they're about $80 I think... which is about 1/2 of what you'd pay retail... or try Checker..
Mary Beth
I got mine on ebay, even ended up buying a huge one, but don't have to use the whole lenght, it's like getting two sizes in one.
dtreusch
I'd like to get one also now that my basement is done. I'd also like to get a saddle chair and I've seen where a lot of you got them on E-Bay. I've never been on E-Bay. Not even to browse. I guess it's about time to check it out. Mrs.A
So what would one search for on ebay? A search for 'portable quilt rack' and 'portable quilt stand' did not yield the type of rack we're talking about.
ffq-lar
Try a search for photography stand or photographer's backdrop stand.
Mary Beth
Linda is right, I searched for "backdrop stand". I ordered two, one for me and one for Jeanne (Shadows4) and I think it was free shipping (can't beat that). I don't remember the company name, it was out of California. It is a very sturdy stand, I'm glad I did it. I was having a hard time finding a place to hang quilts in my space. This allows me to hang the next top so that I can look at it and get ideas for what to do next, as well has photograph the completed qults. And if I ever need to take it with me, it comes with a canvas case.

ramona-quilter
I have the Amvona rack. It is really for holding up background fabric for photographers but it works great for quilts. Then I bought some 2" o-rings, like for binders, from Office Depot. 2-inch rings slide easily on the Amvona cross piece. I added a cheapy set of drape rings with clips (Walmart) on the o-rings. I clip the quilt to the drape clips and raise the poles so I can photograph a quilt. Mine is a double, too, so it is handy for quilt shows as well. I love to see my clients faces when they walk in and see their quilt hanging up. It comes iwht a nice bag so you can collapse it and store it in the closet. They have them on sale now for $80. Here's a link. http://www.amvona.com/?page=shop/category&category_id=64d732da9d2c09a19bb49e2f76e0003f
JoAnnHoffman
I bought 3 off of Ebay, all Amvona from $39.00 to $75.00 plus shipping. I think it is the aso-14 model
Quilting Heidi
Here's a link I found for a make-your-own and it would be cheap to make. http://www.diyphotography.net/homestudio/blz/home-made-cheap-diy-backdrop-stand
sewlinzi
My stand is British from Procameras - it was around £90 and is not that strong. It is great for photos but it did blow over!! LINZI x
ahorsley
Try B & H Photo out of New York (I think). They have an online site as well. This might give you an idea of retail price. Ann Horsley
kathyb
This is where I ordered mine and it was less than $70, including shipping! I don't know how I got along without it! I can even use it as a design wall by putting the top bar into a sewn sleeve of some flannel. http://www.iconusa.com good luck!
ramona-quilter
Wow, Kathy, I have never thought of using my photo stand with flannel as a design board. That is a great idea. My current design board is only 4 x 4, somewhat limited. Thanks for the tip.
Marlette
YAY now I know where I can get that stand too! I hate trying to figure out the best way to hang the latest project. I've had my fingers in the photo more than once and if it's outside you pray the breezes won't decide to kick up. Using it for a design wall makes it really worth the price! Thanks for the tips girl friends
Kathleen
I ordered mine from Porters out of Cedar Falls Iowa, it is great and I use it alot. http://www.porters.com

Anniquilter
I got my Savage photo stand thru' iconusa.com. I use black curtain rings with clips to hold the quilts. Actually thi is my 2nd stand. I lent the original, less expensive one, to our guild's quilt show and it got permanently damaged to make it unusable for any quilt over 45" high! This new one collapses down & can be stored in its own bag. It's also not being lent to anyone...
