Email me at apqsnw.com and I'll email you the manual I found for the Ult 1. If you're having issues that you can't solve using the manual, don't hesitate to contact APQS Service at service@apqs.com or (800) 426-7255.

If your machine is an Ultimate, you have a real workhorse!! I'll look for a manual and post it here.

From the picture it looks like you have an Ultimate 1 and if the motor is original it was made around 1992.  If I remember correctly the serial number was stamped in the underside flat area above the hopping foot.
    Hope this helps

Linda, if you'll tell us the serial number of your machine, we can look up the year and get you the proper manual. Or you can join the We Love APQS Facebook group and download the appropriate manual. Email me at info@apqsnw.com and we'll get you going!

You might have a problem with tension and stitches not having enough depth to properly lock, if you quilt it on a longarm.  It would probably be best to use your dsm to quilt.  Why you don't want to use batting?

I added hand wheels to the rollers on the Ult 2 table I rebuilt 12 years ago.  The original Ult 2 table only had 3 rollers, I added the fourth "leveling" roller during the rebuild.  I completely redid the roller mount system, using pillow blocks to mount the rollers.  I welded extensions to the roller shafts on the right ends of the pick-up, backing, and quilt top rollers.  This extended the shafts about 1.5" to 2" beyond the pillow blocks, and provided the necessary shaft length to mount the wheels.
I'm not sure how much your roller shafts extend beyond their mountings so I don't know if you can do something similar without adding length to the shafts.  If not, you could do as I did, and have the lengths extended enough for hand wheels.  In order to avoid alignment problems, I welded 1/2" rod stock to the shafts rather than the 5/8" rod the roller shafts are made from.  I think the half inch size also made hand wheel selection easier.  I ended up using 4" hand wheels I bought from Grizzly Industrial.
While modification is involved, removing the 3 rollers in question from your table and taking them to a local welding shop shouldn't be too difficult.  It certainly would solve your problem.  Good luck.  Jim

Do you have the quilt tight on the frame?  You should be able to poke a finger underneath your quilt and grab it with your other hand down to about the first knuckle.
Are you in stitch regulated or manual mode?
Is this only happening at a particular speed or all of the time?  At a particular spot in the table or all over?
Do you have casters on the table?  Flooring type - carpet, tile, wood, concrete?
Have you retightened all the bolts connecting the table to the legs?
I purchased a used Freddie and have been having the same issue.  I've been working with APQS to diagnose and resolve the problem.  After trying multiple things at home, I took the machine to a dealer.  The machine did the same thing on their table so it seems my issue is not with the table.  The machine is now back at APQS and they're supposed to look at it this week.

Have you contacted the manufacture (Grace Company)?  That is probably your best option for support.
There doesn't seem to be very many posts in this forum about Sure Stitch.

I've been having trouble with the pickup bar brake slipping so decided to swap it end for end and it is now holding perfectly.
I had installed that brake wrong!

If you're having trouble with a slipping rear brake, make sure the round end is on the pickup bar, flat end on the leveler bar.
The front brake should have the round end on the backing bar, flat end on the quilt top bar.

I am so very sorry for your loss.  Your sale will be much easier with pictures, a price, the features, age, and model of the machine, etc..
Best of luck in your sale.

    jimerickson,

    Thank you!
I agree re adjustments. I guess there's always room for improvement on the way the machines and tables are made. Job security? lol
I read another post on here that suggested pushing batting under the leveler bar to help control the Bliss track movement. That didn't work well for me, but...I did place a good amount folded up just behind where I was quilting and it helped quite a bit. I'm sure I'll get used to the Bliss tracks eventually, and I find that using manual mode at higher speed helps also.

Those "pebbles" do get tedious, don't they?  Photo looks great.
One thing I've never liked about the Lenni tables is the fact the roller rack doesn't have any facility for adjustments.  I made sure when I designed and rebuilt my Ult 2 table, that I could adjust the roller positions some so if I didn't like where they were, I could move them.  There's some adjustment that can be made on the Millie table, but not on Lenni.  I guess you'll just get used to where they are as you use the machine.  Keep up the good work.  Jim

I was using it the night before. Flipped it off when I was done. And when I went to use it the next morning it was being wonky. I left her alone all night. Flipped it on again the next day and after a minute of being strange she worked herself normal….

I've been custom quilting since about 2013. My first "longarm" was a sit-down machine. It was fun, for for me, frustrating because it wasn't a whole lot different than what I was doing with my sewing machine.
We decided to move to FL, so I sold my machine before we moved, then bought an HQ Simply 16. I always had problems with leveling the table on it, thread always breaking, tension always off no matter what I did to fix it.
We moved back to WA state almost 4 years ago because my husband needed better medical care than we were able to access in FL, so I sold that machine. Once resettled, for some strange reason, I bought another machine just like it, different brand, but made by the same company. You guessed right...I had the same problems with the new machine! I sold it recently and decided to buy an APQS Lenni.
I had issues right out of the box, and after six weeks of trying one thing after another, finally got some great help from Beth Durand out of Portland, Oregon. She's an amazingly knowledgeable company rep and I'm so thankful she was able to figure out what was going on.
So, here I am, finally finishing my first quilt, but I must say, it's been a huge learning curve. LOL I've attached a couple of photos of two of the blocks, and they don't look so bad in the photos, but I must say, I think I'll take a break from pebbles, crank up the speed and do some much looser fills for a while.
I'm also wondering why there is so much space between the leveler bar and machine bed. An entire inch seems excessive, but I'll probably appreciate it once I get my red snappers installed.
I think I'll put another plain practice piece on and see what happens.

Well, after lots of thought, I went with my Circle Lord Jester boards.  I really like how it looks, and so do my daughter and son-in-law!

What I would do is load the quilt and then baste it.... very long stitches, verticle and horizontal rows about 2-3" apart.  Then you can do your fill work, taking out the basting stitches as you go

Many thanks to Beth Durand and Angie B at APQS for sticking with my issue and helping to get me up and running! YAY!
A new Bliss rod was shipped to me and I replaced it myself. Not totally fun, but well worth the 1 & 1/2 hours of my time.
My first quilt on this machine is loaded and making progress.  YAY!

It likely is my fuse. My machine has two fuses. I was able to contact my local APQS service tech and trouble shoot. Unfortunately I don’t have spare fuses and will order some in the morning. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.  I do have the small piece of batting in the thread guide.  The spools are cross wound.   But, I haven't tried a thread conditioner.  I will certainly give that a try!
