JoAnnHoffman
A great way to learn how to thread paint is to play on preprinted fabric.

whitepinesquilter
Beautiful! So what kind of thread are you using on your backing and what is your batting? Is this technique, like shown here, more stiff for art or wall hangings type of work? Just wondering how a person can do thread painting and still have it drape enough for a quilt? I do so love what you are doing here!

JoAnnHoffman
I would consider this a wall hanging. Lighter background fill might make it softer for a throw. Glide thread.

Hitomi
Yes very good idea. I never did fabric before. I took a class with Jennifer Day and we did thread painting on a photo. I picked my cat in my bathroom sink. I still have this cat but this photo was taken 10 years ago.

whitepinesquilter
Oh, JoAnn, I just had to tell you that my granddaughter and I stopped in at Goodwill today, and I found a lovely piece of floral fabric in the softest hues. It is a 54" square piece for $1.25, so I purchased it with your thread painting practice in mind. It will be so fun to practice on! MarieBrewer
JoAnn, the pink echoed area looks like the 1000 earth worms I put in the garden. Hope this amuses you and doesn't make you unhappy!!
PattyJo
Joanne, beautiful thread painting. I've done a bit of this, but your pics have again inspired me to get some more fabric out of the stash and just play. Thanks for posting the inspiration.
