Shar Schmutz
This 90 x 100 quilt arrived looking very sad and in need of a real Do Over! Nothing was flat, it needed a bra EVERWHERE, it did have very friendly and happy borders. The applique looked like a second grader did it. The first thing I did was panic and try to contact Heidi, I interrupted her at MQX, ok now I was embarrased to boot!:P She suggested I not add batting to the backs of the leaves, THANK YOU Heidi!! I ended up adding wool batting to the backsides of all the flowers which are bigger than dinner plates. I outlined all the applique, SID the borders and went blind meandering in the black and white background fabrics. I tried to add a little character to the flowers and leaves, but the centers of the flowers were full of the ends of the stems, WHY?? I kept asking was she affraid the heads would fall off if the stem wasn't attached to the centers???? :P I added a nice flowery border but it can only be seen on the back..sigh Anyway, here is a before and after if you want to see more just click on one of the pictures and it will take you to my Webshots. Merryjo2003
Looks like you tamed that wonky one! We all get a challenge like that once in a while. Feels good when they start out very questionable, and end up better than fine!
LibbyG
Shar, Checked out webshots and the quilt looks great! I actually like the pattern and color scheme. Too bad she didn't know the stems didn't have to go to the centers. Are you going to tell her?

ffq-lar
Crack that whip and tame that beast! Great job with a big challenge, Shar! I went to your webshots and that flower-y quilting in the border (which shows nicely on the back) is perfect! Your treatment of the flowers was spot-on and very effective. Excellent!! Shar Schmutz
I actually delivered this quilt today and went over the touchy parts with her, she was so happy with the way it came out, I don't think she heard a word I said!:P I suggested she go back and re tack down some of the edges of appliqué as it was very iffy. Libby; she told me this was a first attempt at appliqué (no fool'n!) and she won't be doing any more, she has met her quota for a quilt for each child and now will begin on more simple projects for her grand children. One of the flower's center was so thick I simply could not quilt it, I suggested she hand tack it in the middle or add a small button. We had a good laugh over the stems going to the centers, she just said she didn't know better, she is a very sweet elderly lady Thanks everyone for the kind comments, it certainly means a lot coming from you very talented quilters!!!
