Little House Creations
Hi all - I need some help with design ideas for this beautiful applique quilt. It was made as a shop sample for a BOM. The only thing that I know the piecer/appliquer wants is feather sprays in between the blocks. She also knows that it's going to cost her more than my normal e2e charge (!). I would like to avoid ruler work . . . maybe swags in the borders but no cross-hatching. I just don't have the time and it would make it too pricy. Any suggestions would be really helpful - the top is about 72 x 86 . . . and wonderfully done. I will ppp until I have the design elements just right! Thanks

Busy Quilting
If you are feathering between the block the also do a continuous feather between the small border and the outer pieced block border. I would do a continuous Line of hearts around the outer pieced blocks before the feathers. Maybe even echo the hear inside especially on the sqaure blocks. The piano key the outer edge to the binding.
LibbyG
I would feather around the hearts like a wreath. Then use a fill and occasionally work some feathers in. Inside the applique I'd try some crosshatching and some McT. I'd have to think about the border.
dlnewell
Looks like she did a really nice job on the piecing and applique. Since this is a shop sample, it would be a good opportunity to do custom for a cheaper price and get lots of free advertising for your custom work...that is if you are needing more customers. If it were mine...do the feather swag like customer wanted in all the sashings. SID all those blocks and on either side of that red border. Do a meander in background of each block...I wouldn't want to cross hatch either. I like Lyn's suggestion of a continuous heart and straight lines on the outermost white border. In the heart and square border, I would maybe meander or cursive letter l or e on top and bottom(the white background part) and then you come to a point of the square, cc it and move on with the background fill. Another option would be from the red border to the pieced heart/square border, do half spine feather filling up all the space, and on the outer part straight lines. Little House Creations
Happy New Year everyone! I went to the studio today and finished up the applique quilt - it's a shop sample and will be offered as a BOM from the shop (Addies Creative Fabric, Cochrane, Alberta, Canada) . . . I am very happy with it, and so is the piecer. She did an absolutely beautiful job at hand-applique - I can't wait to have it hanging in the shop! Very grateful for my stitch regulator, quilt glide and Bliss! I outlined every single one of those applique pieces - well worth it as they just pop!; feather heart swags in the sashings, and "swirl-feather-feather" filler in blocks and in borders; Glide thread 2014 is going to be a very good year!
