Quilting scissors

Recommended Posts

Charlotte, I use a tiny pair of curved embroidery scissors that I keep on the front spindle thingy on top of the machine. I take them down, snip what I need, and put them back. It's really convenient, and has gotten to be such a habit that I automatically reach for the spindle when I need scissors.

I have a retractable "leash" like you'd use for your work keycard that holds my scissors.  I wear it on my waist.  Tried around the neck, but about choked myself several times!  The laser spindle on the front of the machine is where I keep my (unused) basket style coffee filter for holding threads.  A little snip in the bottom of the paper, and I've got a wastebasket that moves with my machine head.

When I purchased my machine, Marilyn Karper gave me a pair of blunt nosed scissors from Nifty Notions. I wear those hooked to a retractable leash/lanyard thing booked to the neck of my shirt. They don't bother me at all and I sometimes go to the store or post office and realize I still have them on. Since they have a blunt end I don't worry about poking a hole in the quilt with the point.

Does the spindle thingy have another purpose? New Millie owner, I've parked my scissors there and never given another thought as to what it's supposed to be used for (if I knew where to find the smiley icons I've seen Linda use, I'd add the shamefaced one here...). So much to learn, I love this forum!!!

I'm familiar with the spindle thingy that's on top, being another post for my laser to be mounted to. But I'm sure it could be used for all sorts of great ideas, that make our quilting life that much easier.

I tried my scissors on it for a while, but found I much prefer them on a retractable scissor fob attached to the handles. I did try the scissors on the retractable attached to my shirt, but had to many near miss's to continue chancing it, by leaving them there!!! :)

I use the spindle for scissors most of the time,

The tiny straight ones, and In my apron pocket,

I have a blunt tipped pair on one of the casino

things that stretch out.  I also have the two

marking pens, one goes on blue, the other for

dark fabrics, goes on white, and a tape measure,

seam ripper.. in another pocket that I made

about 3/4 of pocket size and use that for thread

ends, corner snips,  stray threads..

I am wearing thru the second layer of fabric

I put on after the first layer got thread bare.

My apron that is.  I am going to make a few

more just to wear around the house.. I love

things I need right at hand.

I use the thread pocket so much that I automatically

try to put things I pick up or a thread, and they end

up on the floor, so I have to pick it up again

Rita.

My "Baby" is a Gammill Classic Plus, I have made homemade micro handles that attach to my light bar shade. On those I've attached a magnet and that is where my thread snips live. Easy, always right there. I've done this for so long it is just automatic.

Oh, I wear the scissors on the retractable lanyard sometimes and that isn't a good idea for me. Pokes aren't fun. I forgot to take them off the other day and was on my way out to go to the bank. My hubby told me I might be in trouble if I went into the bank with them on. LOL
