Boy, oh, boy what a mess FINISHED!

Recommended Posts

A very dear sweet customer brought me a mess of a quilt to do for her. We discussed the challenge of quilting a not square, not flat, not pieced well quilt and after quoting her a HUGE price.....she wanted me to try. (I thought she'd change her mind after how much it was going to cost!) I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge but here is what I've done so far....

I think that so far the hardest part was figuring out what the quilt is supposed to measure. I finally decided it was 91" square and used those measurements to load. Then straigtened out the inner border as much as possible and nailed it down with SID. I'm also using SID around the stars then CC in the diamonds. I have the ironing board right next to the frame and am using Bonnies Starch and Steam method on each section as I roll (haven't rolled it yet). I tried to starch and steam on the part already on the frame but my Dream Puff batting squished down and got kind of hard. I figure as long as I keep the sides at the correct measurement as I roll and keep that inner border as straight as possible I'll be able to work the fullness in. (keeping my fingers crossed!)

What a beautiful quilt you are making! Your customer will realize how fortunate she is to have you! I'm sure you're more than earning the price you quoted! Can't imagine the patience you must have--and how good you will feel when the beauty that was the beast comes off that frame!! Jane
