witha'K'quilting
I finally got a picture of my new snow dyed fabric. I think I am going to overdye it with more green. That should add to its character. Other than that...i love it. I just bunched the fabric up on the screen...so want going for a controlled look. This will make a great back since it is 95"x108". quilted charm
That looks great! I love the color combination. I have never heard of snow dyed fabric until I got on this forum. Having about 1-1.5 inches of snow a year, I'm guessing I won't get to try it anytime soon, but looks like fun just waiting to see what you've got. Janette
I love it, it looks like the sky on a dark day - maybe would try it, but was 20% C today !!! no chance of snow for quite some time here !!! At first glance I thought it was the top of a photograph as only the top part appears on my screen until scrolling down.
witha'K'quilting
I have it back on the screen covered with snow...and dark green and teal dyes. Hoping to tone down the purple and wine a bit. I have a scrappy quilt that this will be the backing for.
DollieBee
Too fun! I tried snow dyeing, but the instructions had you put the fabric in the bottom of a rubbermade container with the snow and dye on top. Then you had to bring it inside to melt it. We didn't get as lovely of results as you did on this. I will be looking forward to seeing it with the additional colors added... Enjoy the process! saratogaquilter
Beautiful, Kristina! There's a chance of snow showers towards the end of the week here, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I just love what you did!! Sheryl
nanbrug
Love it! I quess that's one thing to look forward to snow again. We have rain now so no snow dyeing today. Thanks for the great instructions on your sight. Can't wait to do it.
CindyT
Interesting piece, Kristina. I, too, thought it was the sky at first glance until I scrolled down. I bet the additional colors will really pop and make for a beautiful backing. Sorry you're still getting snow in spring, but it's giving you the chance to do more snow dyeing. Littleshoes
Ok, enlighten me. I thought that teal dyes had to be heated and kept a certain temp to take to the fabric. But on the otherhand I used black and blue and fuuschia and ended up with a beautiful teal result. Not sure what I'm doing so thought it was a happy mistake. Anyway the snow is gone here, but maybe not they are calling for some on Sunday again. "sigh" I ordered a bunch of dyes and hope to try some using other techniques too. What type of fabric are you using? I love that your posting, as this has really turned out to be a fun thing for me, which I never thought I would have the nerve to do. Your posts are making me want to try even more! thanks so much!

witha'K'quilting
I am using a 100% cotton backing...nothing special. The dyes are Rit..the teal is working the same as any other of the dyes. I don't have access to better dyes...but these are working fine for what I am going to use them for. Oma
At first, your fabric reminded me of a winter sky at the start of darkness, then the next time I looked at it (yes...I keep looking at it) I thhought it looked like a satelite picture of the northern hemisphere. I love it! Good work.

witha'K'quilting
it is going to be a backing for a quilt. it would look awesome if I used it for a background for a pieced quilt...but don't think i will cut it. so...a backing it shall be! it is 95"x 108". cblevins
I love it! I guess I will have to wait a few months to try it. I buy our backing by the bolt in white and natural so I would love to try this.
Hitomi
I have a whole bolt of white and natural muslin too. I think I will try this too. Did you wash and dry it the washer afterwards? Will the colors bleed?
