GrandmaLKB
This is an applique quilt a friend made in a class over 12 months. The only thing wrong is the teacher had them applique their designs on to a piece of cotton batting, add decorative machine stitching AND buttons. Obviously she has no idea what the quilters of these projects will run in to. I SID around all the applique and then did custom quilting around the blocks and in the borders/sashings. With the blocks made on the batting, that left the sashings/borders without the extra batting to fill them up. I didn't run into any trouble until the last row and she was off a bit and there was too much fabric in the outer borders and in a couple of the sashings between the last blocks. I used extra batting and lots of quilting to suck it up. Turned out pretty good ! [ [/img] From the back: [/img] Another closeup: [/img] Thanks for looking ! Pat C
Nice feathers Linda! I love what you did on the corner border area - very striking. Sounds like this was a challenge, but you mastered it well.
GrandmaLKB
Thank you...........I 'borrowed' the feather border design from one Heidi M posted a while back. I have been saving designs in my favorites and printed off some that would work on this quilt. Thanks to everyone for sharing your work. Your great ideas really help those of us learning along the way.

dlnewell
Very Pretty! I need to try the feather/piano key combo. I guess you backtrack along the feather when stitching the piano keys?
GrandmaLKB
I actually stitched up to the feather and back down again on the same line. I thought it would be too hard to backtrack on the feather. Then stitch in the edge to the next place.
