Mary Beth
Here is my latest customer quilt. It turned out pretty good...after I talked her out of SID! It was a little scary using black, red, or variegated thread on the front and white on the back..but it worked!! But notice the one spot that didn't get quilted...it isn't going back on the frame

Laurie
What a cute quilt! SID?!?!? You were smart to talk her out of it..... what a pain that would have been!
Sheri Butler
Awsome job MB! I love how you did the swirls in the colored blocks, to offset the terry twists.

lindasewsit
Cute!! How in the WORLD did you do the dark threads and white back? I just can't seem to get the right nitch for that!! It always pokes through!! linda
kimmiequilts
That's really cute, great quilting! What batting is in it and do you think that it made a difference with the different thread combos?
Sandra Darlington
What batting and what size needle did you use? I was just using dark purple in the bobbin and white in the top (both So-Fine), Quilter's Dream Mid-Weight poly and a 4.0 needle. I had the pokies through the needle holes, so I ripped it out and went with white and white. I'm just curious if I went with a 3.5 meedle if it would have been better. RitaR
I have to learn those terry twists.. got me stymied.. but that quilt with SID would have been just plain blah.. this way makes it look so much more loveable and kid friendly.. Great Job. RitaR
Mary Beth
Yes, the batting is going to make a big difference I think. It is a terrible, thick, poly batting - like nothing I have seen before. I is stiff, came in sheets like 3' wide and she cut the lenght. I think it is stuff you use for upholstry...but I don't know. I adjusted my tension to make sure I was not pulling on the bobbin thread with the top so I wouldn't pull the white to the top on the black and the black to back. Kind of a balancing act. I am relying on the fact that the batting is so thick. It really doesn't show, and I think that once the quilt is off the machine for a while and has time to relax, any spots that may be showing are going to bury themselves in the quilt. ....I hope
Mary Beth
Oh, needle - probably 4.0, could be 3.5, but I haven't changed it in a while and I don't remember Thanks for having me give a public confession. Thread, So Fine on top, prewound bobbin (with paper sides attached).

Bonnie
Way cute....but ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGG SID, would have been not so cool...and it would have just been a plain plain quilt, this sure popped it.....

JustSewSimple
How absolutely precious! I don't have the book (I guess by Sally Terry) so I'm not sure what the twist is or how to do it. I sure like this quilting, Mary Beth!
Mary Beth
You don't need a book, video or special templates to do a Terry Twist. Take a look at this diagram and PPP http://www.sallyterry.com/documentFiles/5.pdf
chickenscratch
Cute. I hope she likes it. I'm sure glad you didn't do SID on it. I wish we could educate people about the batting choices they make. I'm working on this beautiful triple Irish chain and having to use crappy batting, so there are bumps in some places and thin spots in others.
