witha'K'quilting
I working on this quilt right now. But in a very different color scheme. Can't tell you...it's a secret...you will see it soon enough...don't ask...I am warning you...it is going to knock your socks off...I hope! Anyways, the tree blocks finish at 8" and I am making a king size quilt. Any quilting ideas? Should I just do a pantograph? Or what?? Help, please. witha'K'quilting
Come on ladies...45 blocks are finished. I might be able to quilt this this weekend, with your help.
LinneaMarie
Oh where is that doodley-bugger when we need her???:P How about ribbon candy in the trees, Like smaller at top and getting bigger to fill it up. I think there is a panto with that in it. Other than that I'm fresh out. Of course, I can' come up with ideas for my own either!
Boni
Would you consider something in the line of Dave Hudson's "Santa's Forest"?? The forest behind the trees. . . I like LM's idea of ribbon candy in the trees, or loopy swags.
Hollyrw
I like the ribbon candy in the trees like LinneaMarie suggested. Then SID around the trees and each block. Put an alternating background filler in the blocks, one filler in the light blocks and another in the dark blocks. A ribbon or rope in the inner border. The outer border fabric looks perfect for piano keys to me but that would depend on what fabric you use in your version.
witha'K'quilting
I should have said that my quilt is not Chrismasy. But I am liking the ideas. Thanks.
Quilting Heidi
What about if you did custom and did a garland and then added gems for the lights?!
Bonnie
Well lets put it in the perspective that if you were making it for me, I would rather you did the body in an all over pattern....to busy for custom. BF, Swirls, E2E or your Frogger.... and the border...piano key.
DoryJM
Depending on your fabric (did you use the batik squares??), I think I'd use QD Puff and do small stipple or pebbles or something behind the trees to make them pop out. If the trees need texture, you could do something to make them look like trees (very descriptive, eh??) And if your border is as busy as the one in the picture, do something maybe echoing the background behind the trees, since it won't show and will just give texture. witha'K'quilting
Okay gals. My fabric choices are Black/White/Multicolor. I am starting to think like our very own Bonnie B. Maybe swirls. I can do it, and texture might be better than doing full custom. This is going to go on my bed, not go in any shows. Thanks all. PattyJo
Too me, I would do a loopy E2E. It's funky trees and I would just want to nail it down. Unless you want to practice something that you've been wanting to try, then I would do that. Any quilt that I make for myself, or even a family or friend gift, I will do something that I've been wanting to try.

KathG
Kristina .....This will be such a fun quilt, love it. I am not great with ideas but if you go E2E I see something swirly of circular.

kennan100
It's very wimsical, I love it! You could do pine needle meander and then throw in some funky pine cones? Patty Jo, didn't you do one like that?
Dar
Very cute. I've seen something similar recently in one of the quilt magazines - can't remember which one, but it's multi-colored trees strip pieced with black and white backgrounds all around them. If I can find it, I'll check to see what knd of quilting they have -- IF they have any shown. Dar

Sandra Darlington
That is a really cute quilt! I'm thinking a great panto would be nice on this quilt.
Primitive1
I knew that I just saw something similar, look at page 56 in the Nov/Dec Quiltmaker just out on newsstands...in looking closely though, I can't see any quilting and I think they just did SID...(how boring)... my thoughts would be to do the ribbon candy on the trees, SID around the trees, and then do some whispy wind looking swirls for the background. I do like the pebbling idea, but it would be so much work and on busy fabric I am not sure it would show, besides it would make a bed quilt a little stiff. Are you putting a border on it? witha'K'quilting
Alright...all 90 blocks are made and I have been laying them out in various layouts. My husband has decided that they are NOT trees...but drafting arrows! Go figure...so I am going to do an overall something over the entire quilt and will show everyone when it is finished. Hopefully by this weekend.
