LibbyG
The Bedford Historical Society asked our guild to make them a raffle quilt for 2017. I've always wanted to make this quilt since I saw it in McCalls Quilting Magazine a number of years ago. I used Hobbs 80/20 batting, So Fine on top and Bottom Line in the bobbin. I added an extra row to the top and side of the pattern so it would be queen size. It won 2 First Place Awards, a Second Place and best longarm machine quilting in 3 different area quilt shows. Only one judge said she saw shadowing. I did try to press seams open, but it was easier to sew nine patches ironing to one side. How do you try to prevent shadowing? dlnewell
The only thing I could think of would be if a slight amount of blue was peeking out from behind the seam allowance causing the "Shadowing". Maybe the quilt judge was just standing in front of the light causing a shadow. I think it's very beautiful!
Sue E.
This quilt is gorgeous. I love the blue and white. Your quilting is fantastic. I am not sure, but I think the only way you can avoid shadowing with such high contrast fabrics is to make sure you always press to the dark color and when piecing try to align your fabrics so the blue fabric is just a "smidge" below the top of the white. yankiequilter
Gorgeous, Libby, the quilt is stunning. To reduce shadowing I will trim the dark fabric in the seam so it lies below the light fabric.
