Just finished for a friend

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I just finished a quilt that a friend asked me to design and quilt for him. He's a big Pittsburgh Steeler's fan so I designed the quilt to include the Steelers' logo. I embroidered twelve helmets with 12 of his favorite players names and numbers. Each helmet took about 40 minutes to embroider.

Iasked him to give me four photos that he liked and I included them into the corner blocks. Then I embroidered five football shapes, one for each year that the Steelers won the Super Bowl with the year of each in the center of the football. I quilted the background with a clamshell design that that I drew on the quilt. I was happy with the results and wanted to share it with you. Thanks.

Thanks everyone. I hope he will like it as much as you do but you know that sometimes men miss the finer details of the quilt. I have trained my husband in them so he can point them out to Kevin when he gives it to him.

Shana, I did intend for the quilting to look like little footballs. I'm glad you noticed it because I wondered if Kevin will notice it when he gets the quilts.

The helmets are about 5" x 5". I have a Bernina 630 and embroidered them on a megahoop. The "furry" look is just my novice photographer skills. I used cotton thread to embroider the helmets instead of rayon because I wanted the look to have a matte type finish.

Oh, My Goodness, that is so neat. I am amazed at all there is to look at. You are right in showing your husband all the finer things, the owner needs to see them. I always point out the extras that I do to a quilt. I want them to know how much thought has gone into that quilt. That it truely is a work of art. Yours is TRUELY A WORK OF ART. You should be very proud.

My goodness! That is beautifully designed and quilted!

You could offer those to specialty stores or on-line and ask big bucks for them!! Unless of course, you are like me and love to do a one-of something and then, I'm done with that.

Absolutely stunning--love your "football" clamshells. I am sure your friend will be so pleased!
