donna sco
When I saw the article by Dawn on making strippy table runner and placemats, I realized I could do my placemats on the long arm also. I loaded the top and back fabrics, quilted around the Halloween shapes. Then used the channel locks to stitch the outline of the placemats (contrasting thread color would be good) and stitched on the binding using the stitched outline as a guide. Left space to join the bindings. Took off the placemats, cut around the mats and it only took a few minutes to do the joining on the bindings. I stitched the binding on by machine rather than do hand sewing on the back side.

GrandmaLKB
I've had that project in the back of my mind ever since I saw Dawn's demo on it. I just need to go buy some fabric. I am thinking maybe Fall/Thanksgiving on one side and Christmas on the other. Get double duty out of them. :>) I need some new everyday placemats as well. I've had some Hawaiian print that I bought about 5 years ago that I want to make some placemats with and now I know how to do them. Vonderbar - or should I say Mahalo....! CrazyAboutQuilting
Marlene, the instructions are in the latest issue of Fons and Porter Love of Quilting magazine. Dawn Cavenaugh has step by step instructions with pictures. I just finished a set of them last night. Once I get the binding on them, I will post pictures. Very fun and easy to do!
