LadyLake
My customer just retired a few weeks ago, and is having a ball finishing quilt tops that she likes to say she started during the Clinton Administration! This one is for her grandson.
LadyLake
I decided since this quilt was for a 6-year old, that no stitch-in-the-ditch was required, so it was a challenge to create quilting patterns that were evenly distributed. LadyLake
I used one of my favorite threads, a purple and orange variegated by YLI, over the entire top. I liked the way the variegation showed on the spiraling suns.
LadyLake
I decided to be brave and use a fun contrasting thread for the back, since it was a kid's quilt. Well, I used periwinkle Bottom Line, which didn't turn out to be all that 'out there', but it is still fun to see the quilting on the back. Used Quilters Dream Cotton Select Batt. Thanks for looking! Quilting Heidi
Joan I love how you did that swirl in the background with the radiating lines. It looks great and I'm sure it will be well loved.

LadyLake
Originally posted by Beachside Quilter Wow, Joan! The quilt is fabulous. Please share how you quilted the arc shapes. Vickie, the arc shapes were freehand. I played with ideas for making 'masculine' feathers, and came up with the square ends to the feathers. I knew if I did arcs, some sort of secondary design would appear, so that is what I went with.

chrisquilter
Joan, How cool are the spokes coming from your swirls! You made them look like a twisted ribbon! I would never have thought to square off at the point of the spokes. Thanks. This idea goes in my favorites for sure.

Bonnie H
Joan, you are a fabulous quilter! Is it just me, or does this list seem to be made up of the "movie stars" of long arm quliters? I feel honored to be allowed to see all the beautiful quilting that is displayed here.

Mrs.A
Joan: Not to be knit-picky but that quilt is not Cinco de Mayo...it is Karen Stone's Lady Liberty Goes to Hawaii. I know because I made it a few years back and just started another variation of this pattern this week. Cinco de Mayo is much more complicated. That being said, I love - love - love how you quilted it...especially the designs in the centers of the circles. What a great job and what a lucky kid! Thanks so much for sharing the inspiration with us. Nancy in Tucson
