ENDLESS VISIONS

The South Dakota Governor’s

4th Biennial Art Exhibition

Feb 19 – Apr 24, 2010

Artists’ Reception: Fri, Feb 19, 5-7pm

Endless Visions: The South Dakota Governor’s 4th Biennial Art Exhibition celebrates the diversity, creativity and excellence found in the work of artists from all across our state. It is something we should be proud of.

Thanks to the encouragement and support of Governor Mike Rounds, the cooperative efforts of the exhibiting venues, and an excellent response from artists throughout the state, this project continues to grow. The 4th Biennial adds the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science to the list of venues across our state that are interested in the project’s mission to recognize and encourage South Dakota artists, to promote the artistic identity of South Dakota and to celebrate the cultural and artistic heritage and future of South Dakota.

David Merhib, Director of The Visual Arts Center at the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science; Lora Schauneman, Curator, Dacotah Prairie Museum; and Mary Maxon, Curator, Dahl Arts Center, were given the task of selecting the South Dakota Governor’s Art Exhibition from slides and digital images submitted by the artists. In an effort to provide a level playing field for all artists, the jurors were provided with information including the title and size of the artwork and the materials used in its creation, but is not given the name or any other information about the artist who created each piece.

Endless Visions: The South Dakota Governor’s 4th Biennial Art Exhibition, will make its debut on February 19, 2010 at the Dahl Arts Center in Rapid City with a public reception from 5-7 p.m.

The exhibit will remain on display in Rapid City through April 24, 2010. The exhibit will then travel throughout South Dakota in 2010 and 2011, with exhibitions planned at Dacotah Prairie Museum, Aberdeen; the South Dakota Art Museum, Brookings; the University of South Dakota Galleries, Vermillion, the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center, Pierre, and The Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science, Sioux Falls.

Come on other gals, take your teeth in your tails and go for it. I'm going to try a whole cloth for our local fair, not a huge one, and heaven only knows what next year, for our local quilt show.

If I'm that gutsy, you can be too.

Guys should be trying, also.
